The journey started at 8.30pm at Heathrow airport . Where me and my coaching partners Michael and James were waiting for our first flight to Uganda via Dubai. As part of our destination with Arsenal, we are working with volunteer Uganda so we knew there was going to be more people on the plane. So we were keeping our eyes open, but we failed on that account as we did see them but we didn't say hi as we weren't sure. After getting our visas we went to collect our luggage, and went to the meeting point. This is where the volunteer Uganda team leaders were, and to my amazement there were six other girls. Now if you know my experience with stage 1 with the Arsenal gap programme (August-December) I was very happy as I was the only girl. As much as I enjoyed working with the boys, it did take its toll. Our first night as a group we spent the night in Entebbe at a hostel and also went out for dinner. Then we woke up bright and early to travel to adrift in Jinja which was around 3 hours from Entebbe. Adrift was a outdoor resort which had many activities such as water rafting and bungee jumping. I personally couldn't bring my self to do the bungee jump, but was treated to a lovely lunch and dinner. The rafting was the following day as it was a whole day event. At first the idea of going into the river Nile was terrifying as it was deep and you didn't know what was lurking underneath. Riding the rapids was fun and exciting as you don't know what is going to happen. The only down side to this experience was the major sunburnt that I took back to Kampala where we spent our final night. Where we were again taken out for dinner by our group leaders, however, this was not any ordinary meal, we soon found out that we had to get into two groups and cook our own dinner which was just so much fun! My group had goat to cook and the other group had been given chicken and of course my group won!
More to come.... On our fist meeting with the local children
